An Interruption

…with interesting results

Yesterday I was hard at work typing away and getting a lot done. Well, I was until I got interrupted. And then interrupted again. And again.

Sometimes it feels like every time I start getting stuff done I get interrupted. When I’m not getting much of anything done then I’m left alone but once I get going everyone needs to see me.

Okay so it doesn't happen every time but it does happen often enough to be a problem. Sometimes I can tell them to wait until I finish my thought but not all the time. So what can I do when a 'do not disturb' sign isn't enough?

Sometimes jotting down a note about where I was going with a thought might be enough, but as I don’t always know myself that will only work some of the time. As for the rest of the time I’m not sure there is a fool proof answer, but yesterday an idea did come to mind that seemed to work as I was actually able to continue after the interruption, which isn't always the case for me.

So what was it? Very simple actually, I asked my Guardian Angel to ‘bookmark’ the thought for me.

Now for those who are not familiar with Guardian Angels, it is Catholic tradition that every person on earth is given an Angel to accompany them from the moment of their conception to their final reward. No that's not quite right, every person on earth has had an Angel chose to accompany them. Of their own free will our Angels chose us and I rather think they knew that writing would be a part of our lives before they did.

Our Guardian Angel is to help guide us to heaven and to help us to turn from evil. It’s also said that they can help guide our thoughts and lead us on the correct path. Our Guardian Angel is completely devoted to getting us to heaven. A part of that journey is fulfilling whatever roles God believes best for us. If writing is a part of His path for us then our Angels can, with the grace given them by God, help us if we ask them to. Incidentally, today, October 2nd, is the feast of The Holy Guardian Angels, a day set aside to remember, and honor, our Guardian Angels and their roles in our lives.

Praying and asking Heavenly help, whether directly to God or to him through his servants the Angels and Saints, isn’t just for emergencies; we’re supposed to pray all the time. God can help us with so many things but we have to ask for the help. God gave us free will and the choice to accept His help is ours; if we don’t ask He can’t force His help on us - to do so would violate our free will, something He will never do.

Everything we have, we have by God’s grace, including our creativity and ability to write. God gave us tools to use. If we work on our own we might make something. If we ask for God’s help then if we are supposed to be writing at all He can help us do so better. He can help us make our writing truly worthwhile. This applies to all writing, not just religious works.

Whether you’re facing interruptions, plot tangles, lack of inspiration, or doubt; pray. Ask for help. As I mentioned on my prayers tab, writing is hard enough without doing it alone.

God Bless,
— Rita
