Something About Me

Charming vintage drawing of a child reading a book with her mother.
'Reading Together'
My love of stories was born listening to my dad read out loud to me. He didn't read children's stories but the kind of book he would enjoy too. Books who's language wasn't simplified for children.

Our list included;‘Wait for Me, Watch for Me, Eula Bee,’ 'Eight Mules from Monterey,' ‘They loved to Laugh,’ and 'The Midshipman Quinn Collection.' That last took us several years and had to be dug out of a box when it was accidentally stored away. Listening to him read is one of my fondest memories. Dad never had a very expressive reading voice but that was our special time and I treasured it. Someday I want to read to my children that way.

When I was young enough to believe I could do anything I wanted to be an artist and a writer. Well I know now that its not that easy but I still want to be a writer (I'd like to be an artist too but I think this is enough to work on.)

The earliest piece I have of my own writing, from when I was about nine or ten, is a snippet of a Josefina (from American Girl) fanfiction, of course I had no idea that that was what it was. After that it was a Redwall story, I worked on that one for sometime but never quite finished. There have been others over the years but those were the most important in my mind out of my early scribbling.

I haven’t always been writing, there have been long stretches where I didn’t write anything at all, but I have always been with stories. Reading other people's or making up my own, stories have always been a part of my daily life. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself without them.

I started this blog because I couldn’t find one that would tell me what I needed to hear. I was, am often still am, unsure of my writing and of being a writer. I didn’t know if I could do it and there are a lot of things I still don’t know. I wanted to find something that would give me more then just an broad view of writing. I wanted to find someone who didn’t sound so definite about how writing should be done. Mostly I wanted to read about someone who was struggling through just like I was.

I don’t know if I can write the sort of blog that I was looking for but I’m trying. I don’t know everything but what I’ve learned I’d like to share and hopefully I’ll learn more along the way.

You can find Something in Ink on Pinterest, Google +, and Facebook (You can also us the handy links on the left :)

I'm also on Goodreads and Google+ as Rita Helen, and the NaNoWriMo web site as Rittanna's Fire (I use this name a bit on other sites so if you see it it's probably me)

Thanks for stopping, I'd love to hear what you think :)
